Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS Course) is an undergraduate course which helps the aspiring candidates to become a dentist. The duration of BDS course is 3 years to 5 years. There is a variation of course due to necessity of an internship. BDS Course can be pursued as a full time or in part time through correspondence. In India there are about 300 dental colleges which offers BDS Courses.
The BDS degree is awarded on the successful completion of the four-year academic education and the one year mandatory internship programme in dentistry education leading to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree programme. After completing your BDS, you are qualified to practice as a dentist.
The BDS is the degree given to a person who plays the vital role in the treatment of problems related to teeth. The dentist prevents, diagnoses and cures to all dental and related diseases.

BDS Admission 2018 in India
Admissions into BDS programmes will be done through NEET Common Entrance Test. Students can appear in entrance exam organized at national or university level examinations. In India, NEET 2018 (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is mostly considered for providing admission to BDS courses.
After clearing the entrance exam, students have to participate in the BDS counselling process which is organized by the authorities. BDS seats will be allotted to candidates on the basis of NEET 2018 rank, filled choices and availability of seats.

BDS Admission 2018 Date & Selection Process
The BDS Admission 2018 courses will be filled after declaration of NEET results. Passing NEET examination is the only eligibility criteria for BDS Course. After successfully clearing the NEET examination, students have to participate in the counselling process. BDS seats will be allotted to the candidates on the basis of NEET rank, filled choices and seats availability.
Only those students, who have cleared the 10+2 examination with science stream and have had Physics, Chemistry Biology and English in 12th stream, may apply for the BDS course through NEET examination. It is the course which will be having hands on training in the field of dentistry for the duration of five years. The students will get the chance to interact with the patient and will get the practical knowledge of the diseases.
The students have to score minimum 50% marks (40% in the case of reserved category) in 10 + 2 examination and have to appear for an entrance examination conducted by the respective authorities.
